OUR DAILY MAKE-UP ROUTINE

OUR DAILY MAKE-UP ROUTINE

We had lots of lovely emails about our beauty rituals post asking for more beauty tips and tricks and more info on our makeup regimes as well. We do both wear makeup everyday, foundation, eye liner, concealer, mascara, blusher – the whole shebang and through our jobs and working in the industry we’ve road tested ALOT of products over the years. So today we thought we would share all the details of our day to day make up looks, what we love and why we love it and hope that it answers some of your lovely questions. We are both finally in a place where we’re really loving our make up bags, we hope you enjoy this post and please let us know if you have any other questions!

SMASHBOX BLEMISH CONTROL PRIMER
I didn’t think I liked primers, until I tried this one from Smashbox. I found they clogged up my skin and just felt like an unnecessary buildup I could do without! It was actually Sarah who told me how amazing the Smashbox primers are and I’ve been totally sold since! I usually have typically blemish/oily prone skin (that’s all changed since being pregnant, thank you hormones!) but even still I’m so scared to use products that might bring it all back. I’ve been using this blemish control primer now for a few months and it really seems to be working wonders. I use it as a moisturiser in the morning (sorry for any beauty gurus that will be tutting right now!) and let it sink in to my skin before applying my concealer & foundation.

NARS CONCEALER STICK – CUSTARD
I’ve got funny red marks around my nostrils and horrid bloodshot marks under my left eye so I use this concealer stick to hide the sins before adding foundation on top. I prefer the texture of this stick compared to the liquid pens as feel it goes on smoother without any shiny residue. It’s also the best concealer to dab on over blemishes. I just take a small brush, tap it on the concealer stick and “paint” on to the blemish and use the brush the blend it in around the spot.

TOM FORD EYE DEFINING PEN
Liquid eyeliners all come down to personal preference; some like felt tip pens, some like paint pots…I’m definitely a felt-tip pen kinda girl. I’ve tried SO many, but too many leaked/transferred on to my eye lid or just wouldn’t come out smoothly enough to glide easily along. I read up on this Tom Ford defining pen a while ago and despite the hefty price tag I decided to make the investment to see if it was worth the splurge…hell yes!! It’s got two ends – one thick tip to sculpt a line and a smaller thinner tip to help create that all important flick. Yes it’s pricey but in my opinion it’s worth every penny.

ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR LIGHT – INTENSITY 3.0
This foundation is life. I absolutely adore it! It’s so tricky finding the perfect foundation to suit everyone’s skin type, but I have found my match with double wear light. I really don’t like that cakey/thick foundation feeling, and what’s even better with this one is it literally stays put all day without even feeling like you’ve got anything on your face. At the moment i’m using intensity 3.0 which is my perfect match without a tan but during the summer months i’m going to go up to intensity 3.5.

MAC EYE PENCIL – COFFEE
The amount of every day eyeliner pencils I’ve tried & tested is such a joke. So many of them leak or are really difficult to put on you end up scratching your skin off! That was until I started to use this MAC pencil in the perfect every day brown shade “coffee”. I usually put my makeup on at about 7.30am before work and can guarantee that my bottom lid eyeliner will stay put all day.
A bit of a makeup tip a makeup artist once told me – If you take this pencil and rub it on the back of your hand, take an eyeshadow brush, wipe it along the mark on your hand and use it to create a really natural smokey eyeshadow. I love this technique, especially with this matte colour tone it looks lovely to help contour your eye socket for a slightly dressed up look.

MAX FACTOR MASTERPIECE MASCARA
Oh wow to this mascara!! A few years back a makeup artist on a shoot told me about it and I’ve used it every single day since. I love how it combs each eye lash without any bulky feathery looking build up!

CHANEL LES BEIGES BRONZER/POWDER – NO.50
Finding a good matte bronzer without any shimmery sparkles is like finding the golden ticket…I found it 🙂 This Chanel bronzer is definitely on the pricier side but SO worth it. It doesn’t go patchy by the end of the day and it’s the perfect bronze/golden shade.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY BRONZE & GLOW
Technically this should be used as a bronzer and highlighter but I like to use the bronzer part to softly contour my cheekbones. My face definitely feels rounder & fuller since being pregnant so although I used to only use this product for date night I’ve started using it daily to help sculpt my face. You’ve got to be VERY careful when contouring so I literally use the tiniest amount to swipe from the bottom of my cheek bone up to the top by my sideburns.

NARS BLUSHER – AMOUR
I’ve used this blusher for absolutely years. It’s my fail safe must-have product and even on days where my skin looks really dull and tired it really helps to brighten up my face. I know it looks very pink in the packaging but you literally need a tiny dab and lightly stroke on the apple of your cheeks to add the perfect pop.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY BROW LIFT – SUPER MODEL
A few years ago a makeup artist on one of my YOU editorials asked if she could pencil in the gaps in my eyebrows… well that was that. I’ve never looked back! The minute you start (naturally) filling in your brows you will realise how important it is to frame your face. I’ve tried a few different pencils but this is by far the best texture and more importantly, best shade (no Scouse brow for me, sorry!)

CHARLOTTE TILBURY LIP LINER – PILLOW TALK
This product has been an absolute must-have in my make-up bag for a few years now and I don’t know what I would do without it. If the thought of lip liner freaks you out, you’ll love this product. I use it just to define (not exaggerate!) my lips in a very natural way.

NARS SATIN LIP PENCIL – ISOLA BELLA
To say Sarah and I have a nudey/natural/pinky lipstick obsession would be an understatement of the century! We are literally obsessed and constantly on the look out for finding the next best thing on the market. Queue this NARS satin lip pencil… it glides on like silk (or satin!) which I really like first thing in the morning when my lips feel a little dry.

SMASHBOX PHOTO FINISH PRIMER WATER
Ever since I started getting up in the 4s for my day job in TV I’ve always needed to use a primer to help keep my makeup in place throughout the day. Without it; by 4pm I look like I’m wearing zilch and what’s left is all patchy on my face! I’m always up for trying new products and I love hearing about new must-haves, enter this Photo Finish primer from Smashbox, it’s a gamechanger. It’s super refreshing to spray on in the morning and it’s not too oily or slidey (I hate the primers that are so slidey that your foundation literally won’t stick to you!) It really helps keeps my make up set all day long.

TOM FORD PERFECTING FOUNDATION & BEAUTY SPONGE
I’m a self confessed Tom Ford obsessive and this foundation is the one. It’s a great texture – not too thick and not too thin and gives great coverage without that cakey feeling. I used to use a foundation brush to put on my foundation but now I am absolutely obsessed with beauty sponges – it’s not called a miracle complexion sponge for nothing! I wet it lightly so it expands and use it to blend, blend, blend. Although it takes a little more time than a brush I love the natural blended finish it gives; especially around problem areas like the nose and brows where product can build up.

NARS SOFT MATTE CONCEALER –  GINGER
This is my lifeline! I really suffer with dark circles under my eyes and I literally can’t live without this concealer. Without a doubt it would be my dessert island essential! A makeup artist told me about it many moons ago and I like to switch between the creamy radiant style and the soft matte version. Again I dab it all the areas it needs (under the eyes, around the nose and blemishes which sadly I am suffering from at the moment!) and again use the beauty blender to blend, blend, blend!

MAC PREP AND PRIME TRANSPARENT FINISHING POWDER
Powder is another essential for me to help keep things in place. Personally I prefer a colourless, translucent powder as it helps sets my foundation and takes off any shine as opposed to building up another layer over my foundation which can sometimes give that OTT look – not for me thanks! This is a handy thing to keep in your bag if you get that dreaded afternoon shine too, simply swipe over the shine and it disappears like magic!

RIMMEL EXAGGERATE LIQUID EYELINER – BLACK
I’m a girl who loves an eye liner flick – so much so when I don’t wear them people have told me I look weird! It’s my thing and with all my research over the years I really feel like I have found the one. My hero liner is none other than Rimmel’s Exaggerate. I’ve recommended this to countless friends and they have all been suitably impressed. Aside from the wondrous price tag (£5.29!) it stays put from morning to night and literally does not move. Top tip – I prefer to blunt the end a little to make the nib a bit thicker. This makes it easier to do one continuos line from the corner of my eye out. Keep a few cotton buds near by as mistakes can be made (even for me!)

CHARLOTTE TILBURY EYE LINER – BARBARELLA BROWN
I’m with P on this one; it’s all about brown eyeliner, black feels too harsh for the day and I really love Barbarella Brown by Charlotte Tilbury. All her make up is so gorgeous and this is one of my many obsessions.  I use this to line the inside and the underneath of my eye and I love its intense colour, I hate it when you you  use a liner that simply doesn’t give you any colour. I find this stays put all day long.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY COLOUR CHAMELEON – AMBER HAZE
I’m not really into eyeshadows on a day to day basis but I am into a slight smudge under the eye. Say bye-bye to harsh lines and hello to a gentle smoke that lifts the eyes! I simply pencil this under my brown eye liner on my lower lashes  and give it a bit of a blend for a soft look. At night I use it as a shadow and smudge this over my eye for a more intense vibe. There’s different shades depending on your eye colour and I love ‘Amber Haze.’

VICTORIA BECKHAM x ESTEE LAUDER BRONZER
This is a newbie to my makeup bag – the pretty packaging alone was enough for me. It’s a bit on the pricier side but is the perfect shade of bronze (obvs VB was going to nail this) and without a glitter particle in sight. I use all over my face and to give my skin a much needed lift – I am the colour of a ghost at the moment and this takes that white edge off perfectly!

MAC BROW SCULPT – BRUN
The waxy texture of this brow sculpt is so good, it acts like a fixing gel as well as a pencil and really keeps those brows in place. I don’t even need to use a gel over the top of it, it’s that good. Don’t forget the importance of filling in those brows it really helps open up your eyes, just remember the more natural the better!

MAC IN EXTREME DIMENSION LASH
I’m really picky when it comes to mascaras and whilst many claim to do it all I often find they don’t – until now! Lenghtening, lifting and thickening in one I think this mascara is the ultimate. I layer quite a few coats and my eyes feel instantly awake.

THE ESTEE EDIT BY ESTEE LAUDER THE BAREST BLUSH – COY CORAL
I’m more a corally type of blush girl than pink and this is the peachy hue of dreams. I swear I’ve tried hundreds of different brands and textures over the years from creamy to dewy to shimmery to matt and I’ve only now just found the perfect shade. For me this is THE colour with just the right amount of shimmer. It gives that natural,  healthy glow in one swish 🙂

MAC LIP PENCIL – BOLDY BARE
I’ve used Mac lip liners since I can remember and a lip liner is a necessity for lipstick staying skills. I actually pencil it all over my lips and then apply my lippy so when my lippy fades I’ve still got some colour lurking underneath – clever right?!

RIMMEL KATE MOSS LIPSTICK  – COLOUR 56
Another godsend from Rimmel – this lipstick is everything! As Philippa said we love a good nude lip and this is my go to everyday shade. It’s more on the browny side of nude which suits me better than lighter pinky styles and again the price point makes it a no brainer. There are quite a few shades in this collection so I really recommend giving them a go  – it’s not drying on the lips either.
