We’re by no means beauty experts, beauty junkies – yes, experts – no!
First of all we do a lot of reading, follow a lot of beauty bloggers and are up for trying out new lotions, potions and devices to help our skin as much as possible. It’s been a long journey and we’ve loved and loathed too many products to mention! A good skin care routine is definitely not always easy, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there and what works for one person doesn’t always work for another. However we keep on trying out new regimes and advice and we’re finally getting into a good place with our skin. Just like a lot of women; at times, we both suffer from breakouts, tired eyes and oversized pores and have learnt to hide them very well! Alongside a killer make up bag (more on that in another blog post) there’s a few tried and tested rituals that we swear by to help get our skin glowing from the inside out.
1. N E W B E A U T Y W O N D E R S
Here are some of the must-haves currently residing on our faces and we’re pretty confident you’ll like them as much as we do.
Mama Mio -Philippa’s new fave – “‘This is my go to moisturiser during pregnancy, the ingredients are totally safe and organic and I love how it has lifted my skin. My face has felt quite dry recently and this has really helped put the moisture back into it. It’s also not at all greasy.”
La Mer hydrating serum – It’s definitely expensive but worth every penny, it glides on and gives that deep within skin glow like nothing else. We can instantly notice the radiance it brings to our skin.
Estee Lauder advanced night repair ampoules – Sarah’s number one product ‘these are recommended time and time again by beauty gurus and I’m the first to agree that they are quite simply magical. I’m religious about using them every night before bed and despite them being oily they never bring my skin out. I always wake up feeling fresh faced with stress free skin.

The best recommendation we’ve ever been given by makeup artists and dermatologists is Cetaphil. For both of us it’s the only thing we use to take off our make up and there’s no budging on it! Whilst it does take a little longer than a face wipe (we just can’t bring ourself to use those anymore!) our face feels so clean with every ounce of make up removed. We use a separate oil based eye make up remover as well but for face make up it is so simple, non abrasive and kind to skin. It’s our saviour even during breakouts.
3. W A T E R , W A T E R & M O R E W A T E R
This is definitely something we try and be strict with and another ritual that we have to try hard at to achieve. But water is the best form of medicine for your skin. We instantly feel it all over when we don’t drink enough, from feeling sluggish, moody and of course that horrible dry, dehydrated skin. It can sometimes become boring drinking plain water so we love to add cucumber to it to zest it up a little. There are so many clever bottles out there to help you get your recommended 2-3litres a day and we’re never far from ours!
4. T H E P O W E R O F B E R R I E S
There are so many health benefits to berries and we like to add them to our daily routines as much as we can. Whether it’s in a power smoothie in the morning for Sarah, or a side to peanut butter on toast for Philippa; we eat berries everyday. Both blueberries and raspberries are full of antioxidants making them great for anti-aging as well as keeping the skin looking healthy. Pomegranates are another source of antioxidants and are a powerful tool to help to nourish and hydrate the skin. (Top tip – don’t be lazy and buy the ready done pomegranate seeds, not only are they so much more expensive but you lose valuable nutrients!)
5. M A K E T I M E F O R A F A C E M A S K
We’ve officially become those people that spend a Sunday evening / afternoon on skincare. Maybe it’s because we’re getting a little older now, but ever since we’ve paying a bit more attention to our skin routine we’ve noticed a real difference. The sheet mask is that new craze and everyone is doing them – top of our list is the Eve Lom Brightening Mask. It does everything is says on the tin, brightens a dull complexion, helps even out skin tone and also really helps hydrate that winter skin. This has been a real skin booster during the winter months.
