PARTY DRESSING ON THE HIGH STREET

PARTY DRESSING ON THE HIGH STREET

With December in full swing (12 days till Xmas – WTF!) we’ve got parties, drinks & soirees coming at us at all angles & our are constant thought is….”what do we wear?” Throughout the year we often go out from work in our daytime attire, yet come December it all feels a bit wrong; we’re surprising ourselves – give us an excuse to slap on a bit of velvet or a sparkly top and we’re there!
We’ve been getting lots of emails about how to dress for the party season so we’ve broken it all down into bite size sections of the perfect party wardrobe. Scroll below for our ultimate party wear edit.

One of our go to ways to dress up our denims fit for a party / drink or ten is with some tailoring; and this season there’s no escaping the luxe velvet blazer. In jewel tones, belted Hugh Heffner cuts as well as the classic black silhouette there’s so many styles out there and believe us when we say, they are all incredibly flattering. In fact; at a recent night out with The Social Kitchen we rocked our velvet jackets & black trouser combo & loved. Philippa’s fave is her slouchy M&S number (perfect for the bump) & Sarah pushed the boat out with a pop of green from Topshop.

An unexpected entry into the ultimate partywear edit but one we’ve been getting into of late. Give us another way to wear our polo necks and we’re all over it. Cue the cami dress, perfect worn alone or of you’re not keen on showing off those pasty arms then even better layered over a glitzy roll neck. We’ve been buying into a few for work recently & have been living in this M&S one & this H&M layered under a thin polo neck. For the night we like to up the ante with a bell sleeve roll neck and some chunky heels.

Funnily enough the jumpsuit is a topic we often disagree on & both struggle in different ways finding a jumpsuit that suits our shapes. However we’ve been pleasantly surprised with this season’s tux jumpsuit. There’s nothing girlie and frilly about these, they are sleek with a touch of mannish charm and we are so into them! In fact, we have both found two that *may* have entered our wardrobes this season…For Philippa it’s all about this Topshop one that can be tied under / over the bump (whatever your preference)  Sarah is enjoying the minimal vibe of this Millie Mackintosh number.

Oh shoes, our favourite part of any outfit 🙂 Whether you’re a glitzy heel type of girl or a party flat señorita there’s about a million options to choose from this season. The high street shoe selection is outrageously good & we have fallen head over heels (get what we did there??!) for way too many pairs. In case you were wondering we have both decided to wear these H&M ones on Christmas day with the fam (N.B. chunky heels & a slingback = perfect for all day wear)

That party look is not complete without some all important outerwear; yet there’s no way we can advocate throwing on your parka over the top of your frock to complete the look. We’ve rounded up our favourite ‘going out out’ coats that you may want to try for the finishing touch…

Why is it that whenever you want to look for a going out top you can never find one? Yet this Christmas ’tis the season of the going out top. Boy have we been impressed with the shops…we’re talking beading, sequins, velvet & silks in every shape possible. We are serious when we say there is something out there for everyone.
