After the success of our Holiday Wardrobe post back in March, we’ve had so many emails asking for more holiday packing advise. So, here we are with our updated summer holiday wardrobe part TWO, just for you 🙂 We’re both off on our summer holidays (next week!) Sarah will be road tripping her way down from San Francisco to Vegas and Philippa will be sunning herself in her favourite spot, Tel Aviv in Israel.
We obviously couldn’t wait to share with you all our must have holiday buys, all the gems we’ll be packing and what we’ve found by scouring the shops high and low. Scroll down to see how we break down & edit our key looks & all our must-have updates to alleviate the stress when it comes to holiday packing.
THE UPDATED CAMI
For some reason it always seems a little bit of a struggle with what to wear in the evening on holiday. It’s getting the right mix of feeling cool & comfy as well as looking like you’ve made an effort (but not too much.) Both of our holiday destinations will require some nights of getting dressed up whilst others will be much more chilled – that means a selection of tops that can be dressed up and down. As a rule, a classic cami that can be half tucked into our culottes, wide legs & denim shorties in warmer climes is always the answer – it never feels too much. With the underwear & slip trend so huge this season, a lace cami makes so much sense to us as well as being an instant wardrobe update. Our favourite new in styles are these from ASOS…the navy and black combo is SO good!
STRAW GALORE
No holiday is complete without a bit of straw styling. First things first, a beach hat is a holiday essential for a multitude of reasons; beach hair, wrinkles, looking chic…need we say more! We’ve definitely come to realise a luxe beach hat is worth investing in, it’s something you wear year after year and spending the money really is worth it. Our go to shape is this Melissa Odabash panama hat; she’s one of our favourite swimwear designers and always gets it so right. We love this monochrome style and with our mainly monochrome suitcase it’s the perfect fit. If you can’t make the splurge just yet; check out this Boohoo one too – just £10!
A straw beach bag is another must-have for any beach holiday (you know how much we love our Rae Feathers) but we’ve also got to give The White Company a shout out for this shopper. With it’s painted white trim and oversized shape its another luxe piece for that chic holiday suitcase.
LUXE GOLD FINISHES
How much are we loving anything with a gold finish these days? Sunglasses, sandals, bottles, we’re a little bit obsessed. Whilst we’re probably not going to be going to any beach parties on our hols (relaxing is in order!) anything with a metallic twist instantly feels a bit more dressy and perfect if you are going on that type of holiday. You may have seen these Massimo Dutti sandals on our recent slides post, and for us, they’re that perfect evening flat we’ve been searching for…trust us when we say, they literally work with anything! Now let’s talk about this Melissa Odabash bikini, in khaki (our new fave staple bikini colour) and with the most gorgeous gold detail; it was love at first sight! Perfect against that holiday glow but also super flattering as well. It’s always a struggle to work those pale bikinis!
THE BOHO BLOUSE
As we’ve often said, we’re not really that ‘boho’ but even we’ve fallen for the trend (in minimal doses!) this season. Whilst we probably won’t be donning a fringed kaftan anytime soon, a boho blouse is the perfect way to do it. Add it to cut off denims, white jeans over a bikini – it’s a really versatile piece for that capsule holiday wardrobe. There are so many amazing styles to chose from in the shops – the choice is endless! Fear not though, we’ve done the hard work for you and picked the best of the best out now. We won’t judge you if you end up packing a few…we know we will!
RAFFIA SOLES
And the shoe obsession continues….right now it’s all about the espadrilles. We’re loving anything with a wrap around ankle detail, raffia wedge heel & preferably in a tonal, block colour – blacks, tans and surprisingly rose gold, which is infact THE most wearable & versatile summer shoe colour! Don’t be afraid of the ankle ties, if it feels too much, don’t wrap them all the way up your leg, just keep them low on your ankle.
THE WONDER WHITE DRESS
If there’s one thing that screams summer holiday style it’s a white dress. Other than your wedding day it’s probably the only other time you can get away with it – so why not make the most of it?! Despite what you may think, no matter your age, shape or size there is a white dress out there for you – we promise! A sheer maxi style is great for skimming over curves and looks great worn over a black bikini, a long sleeve pom pom number is playful yet super flattering if your conscious of your arms and an off the shoulder style is so versatile – perfect worn day or night. Our advise is to try on a few different shapes to see what you feel comfortable in, thankfully there’s no wrong or right way to do it – as long as it’s white! As for accessorising a tan sandal is the perfect partner – these Asos ones are our faves.
SCALLOPED BIKINIS
If you haven’t got the memo it’s all about the scalloped bikini right now. Acdording to Instagram figures the Marysia bikini was one of the most instagrammed images of 2015 & it’s here to stay! Despite it’s £200+ price tag it’s an incredibly feel good piece, but if your budget doesn’t stretch then Accessorise & New Look have the next best thing for a fraction of the price. (P.S. We know the possibility of scalloped tan lines can seem scary; but everyone is doing it, so we say…go with it!)
THE NEW SUNGLASSES SHAPE
Round sunnies are what it’s all about for SS16 but please don’t be afraid – they are a really easy shape to wear. What we love about them is their effortless style, sometimes we feel a little bit too “done” in oversized, statement shapes but these seem much more wearable. The updated RayBan clubmasters are an absolute must-have and worth the trip to Sunglasses Hut at the airport! (Obvs, we both have them!) If you don’t fancy buying into the trend so heavily, Boohoo & Topshop‘s tortoise shell styles are the ones to make a beeline for!
POM POM PARTY
Ok, so these go against every minimal bone in our body…BUT…we are obsessed! Who would have thought that pom pom sandals could make two Twinnies so happy?! Essentially they will make any top/ shorts/ dress / jeans come to life – just like that! They are a definite throw away trend, a fast fashion buy that’s definitely not worth investing in…With that in mind we’ve found these New Look & Boohoo babes that will be in stores very soon! If you can’t wait (sorry perk of the job!) check out the below that are available to buy right now…
CUE THE COLD SHOULDER
Just like the cami top, the “off the shoulder top” is another of our go to style staples for dressing up – it’s safe to say that we borderline have an obsession! Perfect for balmy evenings and easy holiday dressing. We don’t think there’s anything better than flaunting bronzed arms & decolletage with an off the shoulder number, right?! WAT’s top tip – invest in Nuxe shimmer dry oil and apply to your collar bone & shoulders to look like a true bronzed goddess! (You can thank us later!) In terms of colours we like to stick to lighter hues in the sun but it’s always good to have a failsafe black option in there for nights when you just fancy wearing a black top (why do we always have those nights?!)
We hope you’ve found this post informative, we know the struggle is real when packing for a holiday so we hope our insider tips will help you organise that failsafe holiday wardrobe!
